As a mentor of student research I guide students through the scientific method and promote the collaborative nature of scientific research. In the classroom I use scientific teaching to promote critical thinking, rigor, and creativity during the process of discovery.

Professional Development in Teaching
Faculty Institute for Reforming Science Teaching (FIRST) IV Program, National Science Foundation
A program designed to reform undergraduate science education through professional development, including the design of an inquiry-based, student-centered undergraduate biology course.
Certification in Teaching College Science and Mathematics
A program designed to provide training in the teaching of science and mathematics at the college level, including demostrating knowledge and competency in core areas of adult students as learners, teaching strategies in science and mathematics, assessment of learning, and use of technology in the classroom.
Teaching of College Science
A 16-week course on the philosophies of education, including ethnic, gender, and cultural issues, instruction on course design, dealing with problems of class size, using instructional technologies, and teaching assessment.
Future Academic Scholars in Teaching (FAST) Fellow
A one-year program aimed to provide mentored teaching experience and familiarity with assessment techniques. The program provided instruction on active learning in the classroom and data collection, analysis, and management for education research.

An eight-week course to examine the theory, instructional design, and assessment needed to build a learner-centered undergraduate science course.
